BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) foiled a militant infiltration attempt near the strategic Christian city of Mhardeh on Wednesday.
According to a military source in Hama, the Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-Izza attempted to bypass the Syrian Arab Army’s lines northeast of Mhardeh in a bid to ambush the troops.
However, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) were able to spot the militants before they could infiltrate their positions earlier this morning.
The source said that the Syrian Army and NDF opened fire on the Islamist rebels and forced them to retreat back towards the Idlib buffer zone.
He added that the Syrian Army killed and wounded at least a half dozen militants before they could safely reach their own lines in the northern countryside of Hama.
