Islamic State fighters in Deir El Zor launched a massive offensive at 5 am following heavy mortar shell bombardment on government positions in the city.

The ISIS attack was mainly concentrated on the Heart Hospital, Furat Hotel, and Al-Rawad. Unfortunately for the IS militants, the Syrian Army wasn’t willing to budge an inch and succeeded in repelling the attack.

According to military sources, ISIS lost at least 40 fighters, two tanks, one BMP, and a Hummer truck. Besieged for years now, the Syrian Army troops have managed to hold firm  in the Euphrates province after countless waves of attacks by the internationally recognized terrorist group.

The rest of the Syrian Army should study the tactics used in Deir El Zor. They have resisted hundreds of attacks most of the time with great succes. Isis must have lost thousands in Deir El Zor.

True, the defense has been skillful but they have had time to fortify against VBIEDs. The SAA has had most of its problems holding newly acquired ground from IS before they have had time to secure it.

I don’t mean to take away from the defenders of Deir Ezzor. They have had to protect a very exposed position and to be able to move forces around a wide perimeter on short notice.
