BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:00 A.M.) – The jihadist rebels of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front) launched a wide-scale offensive last night in the eastern countryside of Hama, targeting the towns wedged between the provincial capital and large city of Salamiyah.
Despite the relative size of the attack, the jihadist rebels were not very successful in their approach; this resulted in minimal gains and several dead militants.
Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham began the offensive with a lightening assault at several villages, including Khunayfis, Al-Ramliyeh, and Al-Sultaniyeh.
As a result of this swift attack, the jihadist rebels were able to seize one checkpoint near Khunayfis; however, this would prove costly, as they suffered a large number of casualties while trying to advance several yards into the Syrian Army’s territory.
According to a military source in Al-Salamiyah, the Syrian Arab Army has now taken the offensive in western Salamiyah in order to recapture the lost checkpoint and cleanse the area of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham militants.
