According to a military source, the 7th division of the Syrian Army, in co-ordination with the national defense forces (NDF), yesterday repelled a Jabhat Al-Nusra (Al-Qaeda’s Syrian franchise) assault on the Southern town of Sa’sa in the Quneitra province.

Key to this defense was the contribution of SAA artillery units, which were able to suppress the attacking forces.

The jihadist assault comes after a recent call for the mobilization of Southern Islamist groups, one made by Al-Qaeda and their affiliates and later echoed by ‘activists’ and journalists outside Syria who expressed their concern with regards to the recent losses of the Islamist rebels around Aleppo; their relative inability to make significant headway in the country’s Northern battlegrounds; and the continued success of the SAA in securing more of Damascus’ suburbs.

Over the next few weeks it will become apparent whether this call has been heeded, and whether this relatively quiet front will become more heated as a result

This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
