DAMASCUS, SYRIA (2:25 P.M.) – The Islamist rebels of Fatah Halab (rebel coalition) launched a decisive counter-offensive in the Jabal Badro area of east Aleppo on Sunday night, targeting the key hilltop Tal Al-Zuhour near the Old Sheikh Najjar Industrial District.

Led by Nouriddeen Al-Zinki and Free Syrian Army (FSA), the Islamist rebels stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses at Tal Al-Zuhour, resulting in heavy clashes that required the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAYF) to get involved in the battle on Sunday night.

According to a military source in east Aleppo, the Syrian Arab Army managed to repel the Islamist advance on Sunday night, killing and wounding several militants in the process.

The military source added that sporadic skirmishes are still taking place near Tal Al-Zuhour and the Old Sheikh Najjar District; however, the main Islamist assault has been foiled by the Syrian Arab Army.

The Syrian Arab Army’s Tiger Forces and Republican Guard are expected to resume their offensive inside east Aleppo shortly, targeting the remaining pockets of resistance under rebel control.
