BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 A.M.) – The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched another offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Tuesday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s positions at the Rashidiyah District in the provincial capital.
ISIS began the offensive by attempting to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses near the Central Park; this ultimately failed, but paved the way for another wave of fighters to storm the southern perimeter of the Al-Rashidiyah District.
Following a 7 hour battle that lasted for much of Tuesday afternoon, the Islamic State terrorists were forced to retreat after losing more than 20 fighters at the hands of the Syrian Arab Army’s Al-Qassam Group.
Tuesday’s offensive was just a preliminary assault that was meant to test the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses around the Al-Rashidiyah District.
The Islamic State terrorists are expected to launch a massive offensive in the new year, as they look to expand on their territorial gains in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
