DAMASCUS, SYRIA (15:30 P.M.) – Two consecutive jihadist assaults were launched this morning in eastern Homs as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) came under attack at checkpoints between the Ibn Arsan and Sawanah mountains, usually refered to as the Mahasaa axis. Another attack was observed at the Al-Qaryatayn dam, southwest of Palmyra.
According to Al-Masdar News field reporter Ibrahim Joudeh, both ISIS attacks were fully foiled although clashes continued until noon. The source added that preemptive SAA artillery shelling had done their job, fighting back the hostile militants.
Subsequently, SAA units and members of the National Defence Forces (NDF) retrieved the bodies of 5 ISIS insurgents whom were killed due to skirmishes and direct artillery hits.
It could not be determined how many jihadists were injured of if any additional militants were killed as the Islamic State called off its localized offensive. Al-Masdar News was not able to obtain any information regarding the SAA death toll on Thursday.
