BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:40 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham launched a counter-offensive in the eastern districts of Damascus on Friday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at Al-Qaboun, Tishreen, and Jobar.
Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham attempted to recapture several points they lost to the Syrian Arab Army this week, including the Siyarat Tunnel that was considered one of their most important supply lines from near ‘Irbeen in the East Ghouta.
However, despite their best efforts, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and their allies were unable to recapture any points in eastern Damascus today, paving the way for a powerfulcounter-assault by the Syrian Arab Army around the strategic Al-Qaboun.
As a result of this counter-attack, the Syrian Arab Army was able to encircle Al-Qaboun, leaving the jihadist rebels besieged inside the district for the second time in two months.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army killed over ten jihadist rebels, while also destroying three heavily armored vehicles, two BMP-1s, and one T-72 tank.
