The Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Izra’a – surprised the Islamist rebels of the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front Brigades” with a powerful assault on the latter’s command and control center in the Dara’a Governorate’s northern countryside, killing several enemy combatants while destroying the Islamist rebel headquarters inside the contested town of Kafr Shamis.

Over the last 72 hours in the Dara’a Governorate’s northern countryside, the Syrian Armed Forces have stepped up their military operations after taking a brief hiatus to concentrate on the Sheikh Miskeen front, which is located along the Dara’a-Sinaymeen Road that leads to the West Ghouta region of rural Damascus.

In addition to destroying the Free Syrian Army’s headquarters in northern Dara’a, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division continued their offensive in the strategic city of Sheikh Miskeen after withstanding a large-scale counter-offensive from the Free Syrian Army last week.

Currently, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division is positioned at the western and northern flanks of Sheikh Miskeen; this has created a number of problems for the Islamist rebels of the Free Syrian Army, who have been forced to reinforce this aforementioned city in preparation for the Syrian Armed Forces’ pending offensive.
