The conglomerate of Islamist militias “Ansar Al-Shari’ah” carried out a powerful assault inside the Al-Zahra Association Quarter on Monday night, launching a suicide operation at the northwestern perimeter of the Air Force Intelligence building that rocked this area in western Aleppo.

Despite the intensity of the VBIED (vehicle borne improvised explosive devise) that struck the Air Force Intelligence building, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers entrenched around the Al-Zahra Quarter’s western neighborhoods were able to maintain their positions and push-out the encroaching enemy combatants from the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham.

All-in-all, the Ansar Al-Shari’ah assault at the Air Force Intelligence building and the Great Prophet Mosque were relatively unsuccessful, as over 20 armed combatants from Jabhat Al-Nusra and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham were killed during this night attack inside Al-Zahra Association Quarter.

To not be out-done, the Syrian Armed Forces conducted their own night assault in west Aleppo; however, their target was the Scientific Research Facility located at the outskirts of the New Aleppo Quarter and south of the Al-Zahra Association Quarter.

According to a military source in the provincial capital of the Aleppo Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Liwaa Al-Quds (Jerusalem Brigades) – launched a counter-offensive at the Scientific Research Facility, attacking the militants of Ansar Al-Shari’ah at the eastern corridor of the building.

Following their clashes inside the eastern corridor of the Scientific Research Facility, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to retake the central compound of the building, while suffering 8 casualties during the night offensive.
