DAMASCUS, SYRIA (4:30 P.M.) – The Syrian forces resume a wide-scale offensive in the area located west of the imperative Khanassir-Ithriyah highway, inching closer to reach a major stronghold of Islamist militants in the northwestern countryside of Hama.
The assault, spearheaded by the SAA’a elite 4th Armored Division and Syrian Marines, was launched from the southern countryside of Aleppo with the sole aim of further securing the Khanassir-Ithriyah highway; widely considered the lifeline for the northern city of Aleppo.
The government troops were capable, today, of recapturing three villages; namely Tall Al-Sawwan, Rasm Al-Khala and Abesan, following sever clashes with the al-Qaeda-linked militants.
Both the Syrian forces in southern Aleppo and northeast countryside of Hama are converging on Rahjan town; a key bastion for the extremist group in the area.
According to a military source, it’s highly expected that Nusra militants will carry out a counter attack to recover the losses.
