Today, the Syrian Army continued its assault on the Jaish al-Islam-held town of Mayda’a in eastern Ghouta. Thus, the Syrian Army managed to secure the Mayda’a school and mosque reaching the town center in the process.
Syrian Air Force’s pinpoint airstrikes on rebel positions in Mayda’a and its surrounding areas were pivotal in this advance. Several jihadists were killed and their vehicles destroyed as the army units attacked their trenches.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Army was also able to cut the rebel supply line between Hawsh al-Farah and Mayda’a to prevent any rebel reinforcements from rescuing their embattled allies in the town.
If the Syrian Army was to capture Mayda’a, the eastern front line of eastern Ghouta rebel bastion could very well collapse allowing government troops to seize many more areas as it seeks to further choke the rebels in the region.
