BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:10 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a powerful assault this morning in the northern countryside of Palmyra, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions east of the Al-Shumriyah Mountains.

Led by the 5th Legion and 18th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the hilltops of Talat Al-Sheihat and Talat Al-Rajam in the Al-Sha’er Mountains, resulting in a fierce battle with the Islamic State forces this morning.

According to the official wing of the National Defense Forces (NDF), the Syrian Arab Army has taken full control of both Talat Al-Sheihat and Talat Al-Rajam in the northern countryside of Palmyra.

This latest advance by the Syrian Arab Army comes just 24 hours after the elite Tiger Forces arrived in Palmyra to begin the important offensive to lift the siege on the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
