DAMASCUS, SYRIA (8:30 P.M.) – Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) elite Tiger Forces division and allied paramilitary forces continued their largely successful military campaign in eastern Aleppo countryside on Sunday afternoon striking positions of the so-called “Islamic State” (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS) near its stronghold of Maskanah.
Following the capture of Maskanah train station southwest of the town on Saturday, government forces switched their attention to the northern flank of the imperative town launching a powerful assault on Ras Al-Ayn village and its surroundings.
After several hours of firefights, SAA units broke through IS defenses and captured the aforementioned village, as a result.
In the process of advance, government forces have also imposed full control over local Sugar factory and a farm located directly north of Maskanah town.
No less than 15 IS jihadists have been neutralized in the clashes. Besides, Syrian military seized a tank from defeated IS unit on the territory of Sugar factory.
Approximately 1.5 kilometres lay now between Maskanah’s outskirts and SAA’s frontline positions.
