HAMA, SYRIA (12:50 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful assault in the northern Hama countryside today, targeting the jihadist-held town of Ma’an, which is located along the Hama-Idlib Highway (M-5 Highway).

Led by the Tiger Forces and 555th Regiment of the 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Arab Army breached Jund Al-Aqsa’s (Syrian Al-Qaeda franchise) first-line of defense at Ma’an, forcing the latter to withdraw from the town in order to avoid being overrun.

Making this advance for the Syrian Arab Army possible today was the Russian Air Force, who carried out several airstrikes overnight to weaken the jihadist resolve in northern Hama.

With Ma’an under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces will turn their attention to another important town in the northern Hama countryside: Souran.

Souran is located directly west of the recently captured village of Kawkab and its proximity to other towns like Taybat Al-Imam and Helfaya makes it an imperative military endeavor for the Syrian Army’s High Command.
