BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:50 PM) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA), led by the recently created 5th Legion and assisted by Russian helicopters, assaulted Islamic State (ISIS) positions at the abandoned Armored Batallion, north of the T-4 airbase on Thursday morning.
Clashes lasted until mid-day, when the Syrian Armed Forced finally managed to capture the base after killing close to a dozen ISIS fighters while the rest of them retreated north towards the town of Huwaysis.
These new advances comes after yesterday gains, when SAA captured the Shaer Gas Fields area at the border with the Hama governorate.
The Syrian Armed Forces are currently working on cleaning the terrorist-held pocket between central Homs and the gas fields, so they can later to move north towards the ISIS stronghold of Uqirbat in eastern Hama.
