On Monday afternoon, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard and their allies capitalized on the failed rebel offensive in northern Latakia by launching their own assault on the village of Al-Sukkariyah and the contested town of ‘Ateiri near the Turkish border.
The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), and Muqawama Souri (Syrian resistance) – imposed full control over the village of Al-Sukkariyah after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
The village of Al-Sukkariyah is situated to the south of the rebel stronghold of Al-Rabi’yah in the Turkmen Mountains (Jabal Al-Turkmen) of northern Latakia.
In addition to their success at Al-Sukkariyah in Jabal Al-Turkmen, the National Defense Forces of Latakia City reported that the town of ‘Ateiri was cleared of all Islamist rebels after the Russian Air Force became active in this battle near the Turkish.
According to a military source in the Latakia Governorate, the massive counter-offensive by the Islamist rebel forces on Monday morning was completely repelled by the Syrian Arab Army and their allies.
