DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:00 P.M.) – On Thursday, ISIS’ defensive line collapsed in the provincial capital of Deir Ezzor following a series of rapid pincers conducted by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), leaving the Islamic State on the verge of total defeat in eastern Syria.
A new video released by the Syrian Ministry of Defense shows the SAA engaging ISIS elements in the streets of downtown Deir Ezzor; most of the footage records the recapture of the Al-Hamidiyah District and neighboring residential areas.
According to Al-Masdar News correspondent Ibrahim Joudeh, ISIS controls just three percent of Deir Ezzor City as of Thursday evening following a major breakthrough, primarily due to overwhelming firepower.
Around one hundred ISIS fighters are left fully bogged down and besieged in the Huwyqah district which represents the last neighborhood under Islamic State control.
