The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) is currently on high alert inside the ancient Assyrian city of Quraytayn after a large force of pro-government soldiers surrounded this vast desert area in the Homs Governorate’s southeastern countryside.
On Saturday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 120th Brigade of the 2nd Division – in close coordination with the Dara’ Qalamoun (Qalamoun Shield), the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) – began their long anticipated offensive against the ISIS terrorists in Quraytayn, striking several sites around the city with a barrage of mortar shells and rockets.
Following the relentless shelling, the Syrian Arab Army’s 120th Brigade pressed ISIS’ positions at the western flank of Quraytayn, where they attempted to advance past the terrorist group’s stout defenses.
According to a military source in Sadad, the attack on Quraytayn’s western flank was just the preliminary assault; this offensive is expected to go in full swing in the next few days, as the ISIS terrorists inside the city call on reinforcements to help repel the pro-government forces.
In addition to the assault on Quraytayn, the Syrian Armed Forces are also targeting the mountains to the south of the city; specifically, Jabal Al-Mahsaa and Jabal Al-Nasrani.
