DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:40 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a new offensive in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus tonight, targeting Jaysh Al-Islam’s (Army of Islam) last positions inside the town of Al-Reyhan.

Led by the 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard and Special Mission Forces, the Syrian Arab Army managed to advance deep inside the town of Al-Reyhan, pushing as far as the Reyhan Mosque in the western district.

According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent, the Syrian Arab Army killed 5 members of Jaysh Al-Islam tonight, including 1 sniper that was posted near the Al-Reyhan Mosque.

Intense firefights are still ongoing at the moment, as the Syrian Arab Army attempts to capture the remaining Jaysh Al-Islam pockets inside the town.

As a result of the Islamist rebel infighting between Jaysh Al-Islam and Faylaq Al-Rahman, the Syrian Armed Forces have taken the opportunity to launch this new military operation in the East Ghouta.
