BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 A.M.) – For the first time in two years, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has launched an attack to liberate the strategic village of Al-Uqayrbat in the eastern countryside of Hama.
Backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF), the Syrian Arab Army’s 11th Tank Division began the offensive by launching a barrage of missiles towards the Islamic State’s (ISIS) stronghold, causing severe damage to the terrorist group’s defenses.
Following the barrage of missiles on the Islamic State’s defenses yesterday, the 11th Tank Division and their allies began the important push towards Al-Uqayrbat this morning.
Al-Uqayrbat is not only the Islamic State’s stronghold in east Hama, it is also an important stop along their main supply route to the eastern countryside of Homs.
Losing this village to the Syrian Arab Army would be a major setback for the Islamic State and their oil smuggling business in northern Syria, as they would have to find an alternative route from eastern Homs.
