DAMASCUS, SYRIA (1:10 A.M.) – The jihadist rebels of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front) launched a wide-scale counter-offensive in the West Ghouta region of rural Damascus on Wednesday, targeting several axes near the key town of Khan Al-Sheih.
Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham attempted to surprise the Syrian Arab Army with a powerful series of attacks at three different axes near Khan Al-Sheih; however, their assault was ultimately repelled after a three hour battle on Wednesday
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army killed a total of 17 militants from both Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, forcing the latter two jihadist factions to retreat towards Khan Al-Sheih’s gates.
Following the failed jihadist offensive, the Russian Air Force carried out four airstrikes over Khan Al-Sheih, targeting one of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham’s primary bases inside this town.
Khan Al-Sheih is considered one of the last strongholds for the jihadist rebels in the West Ghouta; if lost to the Syrian Arab Army, Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham will be in serious trouble inside the Golan Heights.
