BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:00 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a heavy attack on the key mountaintop town of Kabani in the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate last night.
Led by the 4th Armored Division, the Syrian Arab Army began the attack on Kabani by launching a plethora of missiles and artillery shells towards the defenses of the Turkestan Islamic Party and Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
Following the missile and artillery barrage, the Syrian Arab Army began storming Kabani from the southern slope of the Zuwayqat Mountains.
However, despite the intensity of their attack, the Syrian Arab Army was unable to break through the jihadist lines after several hours of battle.
According to a military source in northeastern Latakia, the Syrian Arab Army withdrew their assault after sustaining a number of casualties during the battle.
Kabani is located atop of the Zuwayqat Mountains of northeastern Latakia; its proximity to the jihadist stronghold of Jisr Al-Shughour makes its capture a top priority for the Syrian Arab Army.
