Damascus, Syria (11:00 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard, backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF), stormed the strategic hilltop of Tal Kurdi in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus on Friday night.

A military source told Al-Masdar News on Saturday morning that the Syrian Armed Forces stormed Tal Kurdi’s southern perimeter, striking Jaysh Al-Islam’s (Army of Islam) defenses, while another Republican Guard force attempted to advance from the eastern flank.

In addition to the attack on Tal Kurdi, the Syrian Armed Forces attacked the nearby hilltop of Tal Furzat, killing a significant number of Islamist rebels while attempting to advance westward.

Should the Syrian Armed Forces capture these two hilltops in the East Ghouta, they will be in position to strike the imperative rebel stronghold of Douma from its eastern perimeter.

Clashes are ongoing still in the East Ghouta, as Jaysh Al-Islam and their allies continue to retreat from several villages.
