Monday morning was filled with surprises for the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” in Al-Zabadani, as the Syrian Arab Army’s 1st Armored Division – in coordination with Hezbollah and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – surprised the former with a powerful attack at two axes, resulting in the capture of six villages, the eastern highlands, and a number of hills overlooking the resort city.
Continuing their success in the early afternoon, the 1st Armored Division took control of the strategic Point 1715 that overlooks Al-Zabadani from the Western Hills after fierce clashes with Jabhat Al-Nusra and Liwaa Suqour Al-Zabadani.
From Point 1715, the 1st Division advanced to Al-Bayda, where they faced fierce resistance from the entrenched enemy combatants protecting their positions at the western perimeter of the village.
Finally, after violent firefights that led into the evening, the 1st Division and their allies were able to secure the village of Al-Bayda and tighten the chokehold around Jabhat Al-Nusra’s neck in Al-Zabadani.
According to a military source, Jabhat Al-Nusra and their allies are completely surrounded in Al-Zabadani, as the SAA, Hezbollah, and the NDF press into the city from the eastern and western flanks; this has forced the enemy combatants to move back towards the city outskirts.
