DAMASCUS, SYRIA (7:30 A.M.) – With the so-called Islamic State still controls a small enclave in southern Damascus, fierce urban warfare continues to erupt in bid to oust the terror group and fully secure the capital.
Supported by National Defense Forces and Palestinian fighters, the Syrian Army scored fresh advances inside Hajar Aswad neighborhood, tightening noose around the hardline militants holed up in an area crammed with buildings.
The first advance was made east of Yarmouk Refugee Camp on Tadamun axis through seizing a number of building blocks.
However, the second and more important advance was achieved on north-west axis of Hajar Aswad, where the Syrian forces reached the outskirts of Arooba Street and Wassim Mosque.
The recent advance puts the Syrian Army only 100 meters from fully encircling ISIS militants inside Hajar, leaving them no choice but to surrender or retreat to the areas they control in YArmouk Camp.
