The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has benefited immensely from the rebel infighting inside the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus; and as a result, they have seized several villages that were once firmly under the control of the opposition groups.
On Sunday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard capitalized on Jaysh Al-Islam’s (Army of Islam) misery by advancing three blocks east of the disputed Tayba Mosque of Jobar.
Jaysh Al-Islam was unable to maintain their front-line defenses at the Tayba Mosque, forcing them to retreat towards the dilapidated and desolate neighborhoods of east Jobar, where they found little relief from the Syrian Arab Army’s shelling.
The situation does not appear to be getting better for the extremist rebel groups in the East Ghouta, despite the prisoner exchange that was conducted today by Faylaq Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-Islam.
