According to military sources in Syria, the Syrian Army’s elite Republican Guard was able to advance against ISIS terrorists in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor today.

The 104th brigade of the Republican Guard, backed by local fighters, was able to advance in the northern section of the airbase. Pro-government forces also advanced in the industrial area of Liwaa Atta’minat.

Scores of ISIS militants were killed by the Syrian Army in recent fighting. The Russian Air Force (RUAF) has played a key role in assisting forces on the ground, with Tu-22M strategic bombers striking ISIS several times.

ISIS controls most of Deir Ezzor province, and they recently renewed their efforts to capture the remaining areas in the provincial capital.

So did they secure the corridor in between the airbase in the city or not? Most sources still say the supply line is cut off

I want to ask the same question. When did they lift the siege of airport? I can’t find the news.

They didn’t. Forget the map; most are incorrect. Think about this map logically and militarily. It would be the toughest for SAA to establish a bridge head through the Workers District (thin area painted red); it is a highly built up area. Secondly, it appears that 2/3 of daish reinforcements come from the east side of the river, and go through the city itself, meaning, their positions are toughest in built up area of W. District. it is rather impossible for saa to re-establish a bridge head, in the thin area painted red. Lastly, SAA has been trying to advance… Read more »

Study the map above. The red area is Government held. The airbase is on the right. You can see the runway. The highway to the airport is now covered in red but ISIS are too close for using it as a supply line and the western end of the runway is next to an ISIS held area. The river is at the top. In one part ISIS are across the river and in a built up area. To evict them from this enclave would require exhausting street to street fighting. The thin slither of red joining them along the airport… Read more »

En el lado Sur la fuerza aérea debe emplear bombas de mayor potencia o poder expansiva, en esa zona no hay peligro con civiles.
