On Thursday morning inside the town of ‘Itman in the Dara’a Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), the 7th Mechanized Division, and the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) – continued their advance at the Aswad District, capturing several building blocks from the Islamist rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group).

According to a military source at the 5th Armored Division’s headquarters inside the city of Izra’a, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to break-through the Islamist rebel defenses at the Aswad District and seize just over 60 percent of it after an intense firefight with the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front Brigades” and Jabhat Al-Nusra on Thursday.

The source added that the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division and their allies (specifically the National Defense Forces) captured the Cable Factory and the ‘Itman Post Office inside the Aswad District, leaving several enemy combatants from the Free Syrian Army and Jabhat Al-Nusra dead, while also seizing a large cache of their weapons in the process of their advance.

‘Itman is an imperative town that is situated along the main road between the cities of Sheikh Miskeen and Dara’a; if captured, they will have the Islamist rebels wedged between the two towns of Da’el and ‘Ibta.
