On Monday evening, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – continued their powerful assault on the dilapidated city of Jobar inside the East Ghouta region of Damascus, targeting the Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) near the Al-Jourah Mosque in the east district.
According to field reports from the Damascus countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade and the National Defense Forces took control of three large building blocks near the Al-Jourah Mosque inside Jobar; this successful assault resulted in the death of over 15 enemy combatants from Jaysh Al-Islam and the destruction of their primary hideout in the city.
Following their successful assault near the Al-Jourah Mosque, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade and the National Defense Forces conducted several attacks on the Jaysh Al-Islam militants that were entrenched inside the buildings surrounding the decrepit Teacher’s Tower of Jobar; this resulted in the destruction of another Jaysh Al-Islam hideout that was used to store weapons and ammunition.
Unfortunately for Jaysh Al-Islam, they didn’t need to just fear the Syrian Arab Army’s ground forces, they also had to weather the storm from above, as the Russian Air Force repeatedly struck their positions at the former SAA airbase in Marj Al-Sultan.
For the second day in a row, the Russian Air Force launched several airstrikes over the Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-Islam and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” at Marj Al-Sultan, causing significant damage to the Islamist fighters stationed at this abandoned military airbase.
A military source added that the Russian Air Force has concentrated on Marj Al-Sultan due to the large weapons depot at the base that is used by the Islamist rebels to reinforce their comrades inside the East Ghouta.
