BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) finally achieved a major breakthrough in the western countryside of Palmyra on Saturday after liberating the strategic mountaintop of Jabal Tiyas east of the T-4 Pumping Station.
Led by the 800th Regiment of the Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army infiltrated the Islamic State’s front-lines at Jabal Tiyas’ western perimeter, forcing the latter to withdraw to the eastern slopes of the mountain.
With Russian jets pounding the Islamic State’s main supply route to Jabal Tiyas, the Syrian Arab Army took the initiative and stormed the eastern slopes of this mountain, liberating it within the same hour they launched this attack on Saturday.
In addition to the liberation of Jabal Tiyas, the Syrian Arab Army’s 1st Armored Division and government-affiliated paramilitary group, Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), continued their steady advance in the southern countryside of the T-4 Military Airport, pushing the Islamic State terrorists further east of Quraytayn.
The Syrian Arab Army will likely make a major push for the Al-Mahr, Jirah, and Jazal gas fields in the coming days, as they intensify their military operations in the western countryside of Palmyra.
