On Monday morning in the Homs Governorate’s southeastern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 120th Brigade of the 2nd Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Sadad and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) – continued their large-scale counter-assault at Maheen, killing several enemy combatants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) before advancing towards northern flank of the town.
Following a morning filled with violent firefights, the Syrian Arab Army’s 120th Brigade and their allies imposed full control over Jabal Al-Kabeer (Big Mountain) after breaking through ISIS’ frontline defenses near the small of Hawareen, which was also captured by the pro-government forces yesterday.
The Syrian Arab Army’s 120th Brigade and their allies (primarily the Syrian Social Nationalist Party) are now positioned at the outskirts of Maheen; this has forced ISIS to issue a distress call to their comrades in southeastern Homs in order to forestall the pro-government forces from taking this town that they recaptured one month ago.
Assisting the Syrian Armed Forces from above is the Russian Air Force’s fighter jets; these planes have repeatedly struck any ISIS convoy making its way to Maheen from the Tanf border-crossing that links both western Iraq and eastern Syria.
