On Friday evening in the Hama-Raqqa countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 555th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), Fouj Al-Joulan (Golani Regiment), and the pro-government Palestinian militia “Liwaa Al-Quds” (Jerusalem Brigade) – imposed full control over another point along the Salamiyah-Raqqa Highway after a violent battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).
The Syrian Armed Forces reportedly captured “Point 5” on Friday evening after another day of intense fighting with ISIS along this desert front that ultimately leads to the provincial capital of the Al-Raqqa Governorate (ISIS stronghold).
According to a military source from the 555th Brigade, the recently captured point shares the same name as another hilltop called “Point 5” near the city of Ithriyah; however, this point is located near the village of Zakiyah, which is situated north of the Salamiyah-Raqqa Highway.
The Syrian Armed Forces are currently attempting to seize Zakiyah from the ISIS terrorists, but the fighting still remaining outside of the village’s parameters.
South of the strategic Salamiyah-Raqqa Highway, the Syrian Armed Forces continued to progress east towards the Stayef-Sakhanah Road on Friday, capturing more terrain situated to the east of Jibab Marayta (recently captured hilltop) in the Ithriyah countryside.
