Yesterday, the prominent Islamist rebel commander of Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) – Zahran Alloush – was confirmed dead after the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) delivered a powerful airstrike in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus, killing the latter and several other Islamist rebel commanders in the process.

Following the death of Zahran Alloush, Al-Masdar News investigated the events that ultimately led to his assassination via an airstrike from the Syrian Arab Air Force; this required our news team to reach out several sources in Damascus, including intelligence officers and high-ranking officers from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

Al-Masdar News was informed by a trusted source in Damascus that the Syrian Air Force Intelligence was behind the assassination of Zahran Alloush and several of his deputies.

According to Al-Masdar News’ source in Damascus, the Syrian Air Forces Intelligence has infiltrated Jaysh Al-Islam’s high command and several other Islamist rebel groups inside the East Ghouta region.

One of the intelligence officers that infiltrated Alloush’s network had revealed to the AFI the precise location of the Islamist rebel command meeting that was taking place in the East Ghouta; this ultimately led to the death of Zahran Alloush and his comrades.

This is not the first time that the Syrian Air Force Intelligence has carried out an assassination; however, this is by far one of their largest operations during this war.
