BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 P.M.) – Syria will not tolerate any militant presence inside the Idlib Governorate, nor will it accept a U.S. base in the Al-Tanf region of Homs, the assistant regional secretary of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Hilal Hilal, told reporters on Thursday, as quoted by Sputnik News Agency.

“It is absolutely not our fault that [militants] are here. Why should we tolerate their presence on our soil now? They can leave our territory and go to any other country … These groups have two options: either to leave Syrian soil or face the power of the Syrian Arab army,” Hilal said.

Hilal said that the Syrian government will continue to push for the U.S. to withdraw from the Al-Tanf Base in southern Homs.

According to Hilal, the U.S. is planning to leave a few soldiers in the Al-Tanf Zone, which he says is unacceptable.

“Syria has a right to defend any part of the country from foreign occupation. Syrian President Bashar Assad has always said this. We believe that any foreign base created on Syrian soil without the consent of the president and the government of Syria represents an occupation and aggressive forces,” Hilal continued.

“Of course, we will fight the existence of such bases on our territory. I am speaking not only about the military bases but also about people involved in these activities, armed formations and even states,” Hilal added.

A esto hay que agregar las bases establecidos por el gobierno Turco en el norte de Siria.

@Nestor Arapa, especially since the Northern regions like Afrin are much more productive than the al Tanf region.

What are you waiting to make the offensive on Idlib and Al-Tanf ? Russia approval ? Russia will stop any offensive that could damage Turkey-Russia relationship.

it is time for gureila war in al tanaf area like night raids and ambush by local viligeers. SAA should provide support.

@Chauhan, it is not the time to increase Syria’s problems currently by provoking anyone much stronger without need. So the SAA should completely stay out of view. Even if action is needed maintain plausible deniability remains top.

p.s. Fill the area around the Tanf zone with mine fields and improvised explosive devices. And build and use roads to the Iraq border east of the border crossing.

Talk is cheap. Until Syria is ready to actually do something about it, this is just a lot of hot air.

@Christopher, it would sure be wiser not to talk about attacking US stations.

p.s. But You can always support a local guerrilla war against the US.

I don’t advocate Syria attacking the U.S. base in al Tanf. I was just pointing out that, like the hollow threat of attacking Israeli bases if Israel attacked Syria again, this is a lot of hot air.

@Christopher, I understood You the way You explained. Hilal talked about “not tolerating” not You. As assistant regional secretary of the Arab Socialist Baath Party Hali can be seen as an official figure.

And I added to Your first comment that it is generally not wise to use such talk against stronger powers in a way that can be understood as suggesting attacks.

p.s. You must maintain plausible deniability which excludes public statements – but not necessarily covered support for local action.

BTW. The term plausible deniability was coined by the CIA in the early 1960s.

Stern, You have misinterpreted what I said. Syria is not ready to do anything about the American base in al Tanf. It is clear that I was not advocating violence. So don’t lecture me.

@Christopher, I did not intend to attack or lecture You verbally. Sorry.

Not You but Hilal possibly suggested violence.

p.s. IMHO Clausewitz suggested that You should not talk big at all. And I did not contradict him or Your comment that is not wise – while Syria is not ready.

Plus Syria will never be ready to fight openly against a major power.

Syria, who is showing great patience with the satanic zionist state, will choose the time and place to avenge all murderous attacks, along with its allies.

Tell that to the RUSSIANS,who are supporting SYRIA,its only a matter of time, either leave freely,or be driven out.

Leon, The Russians have had a naval base in Syria for a long time. Furthermore, they were invited to help whereas the U.S. was not invited. Our presence there is illegal under international law. Not to mention, it’s none of our business.
