BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:05 P.M.) – The Syrian government is in the process of purchasing the latest Russian air defense system, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on Thursday.

“It’s natural that we should have such systems,” he said.

Assad made these comments to SANA just hours after the Israeli Air Force launched airstrikes near the Damascus International Airport.

“It is natural for us to negotiate with the Russians now with a view to strengthening (our) systems, whether to face any Israeli threats from the air or the threats of American missiles.”

“That has become a real possibility after the recent American aggression on Al-Shayrat air base in Syria,” he added.

In the past, the Syrian government has considered purchasing these air defense systems; however, the arrival have such weapons have often led to unfounded rumors.

When the crews are trained ( presumably in Russia) I hope to see a stealthy and sudden appearance of an integrated 21st century missile defence system in Syria.

Great news! I was really hoping that the defence of Syria will be increased following the attack by the US. US and Western foreign policy is one based upon cowardice. They absolutely will not attack a sovereign nation if they know there is a good chance that they will suffer potentially heavy losses especially their much vaunted fighter aircraft. Footage of military coffins arriving back in the US and Europe is really bad PR and could upset their future plans. They want to fight weak nations that will do their bidding at the mere threat of military action, or pay… Read more »

Agree, Trump the Trumpeter simply want to show the world who is the boss in America but in actual fact he a nothing but a lame duck. He admit himself by saying, “i didn’t know the job of a US president is that tough”. The Zionist Jews controlled him. The Zionist Jews are clowns who think they are invincible. They made America a superpower with they counterfeit paper currency printing. It just that the world have not gather together to deal with them. The Jews can destabilized the Middle East but they cannot do that to Asia. Asia growth is… Read more »

A long overdue wise decision. Must include reconnaissance early warning planes that can scan 500 km distance both above and on ground level. Like this Syrian air force can monitor Zionist regime air force flights and military movement. This will provide the S-300 or S-400 and Syrian army ground forces advance notice. The Zionist America and its Zionist Israel have a habit of attacking Syria in the middle of the night like a thief. Right now their attacks on Syria can come in any direction except near the Russia naval and air bases. God bless Syria, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Yemen,… Read more »
