The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) – in cooperation with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – has launched a counter-attack on the militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham in the Al-Lajat area of northern Dara’a; this assault resulted in today’s capture of Tal Zalfa’ (var. Dhalfa) located in northern Sweida – just east of the Khalkhalah Airbase.
According to a military source in Sweida, the SAA and NDF killed 19 ISIS militants and captured another 8 fighters during the brief battle at Tal Zalfa’. The source further added that ISIS militants tried for weeks to expand their operations on the border of Sweida and Dara’a; however, they were unable to make any gains past Al-Lajat. This failure has allowed for the SAA to regroup and begin a counter-attack in this area.
