The battle for Douma took a brief hiatus the last two weeks, as the Syrian Arab Army’s Central Command focused extensively on the southern front offensive in the Dara’a, As-Sweida, and Al-Quneitra Governorates
With the SAA’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard remaining stagnate near Douma, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) conducted far less airstrikes on this rebel stronghold; instead, they concentrated on the southern part of the province, providing air cover to Hezbollah and the 9th Armored Division at Deir Maker.
This changed on Sunday morning, when the 105th Brigade stormed the southern perimeter of Aliyyah Farms located in northern Douma, killing 26 militants and destroying 2 armored vehicles operated by Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) in the process.
To not be outdone, the SAAF launched 29 airstrikes on the city of Douma; specifically, targeting Jaysh Al-Islam gatherings near Ar-Rayhan Farms to the east.
Firefights are still ongoing between the two parties at Douma; however, the battle has intensified over the last 24 hours, as the 105th Brigade seems poised to break-through Jaysh Al-Islam defenses.
