On Thursday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s Special Operations Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Muqawama Souri (Syrian Resistance) – resumed their wide-scale offensive in the Latakia Governorate’s northeastern countryside, targeting the strategic hilltops and villages inside Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains) that are currently under the control of the Free Syrian Army’s “1st Coastal Brigades” and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra.”
The Syrian Armed Forces began their assault on the strategic hilltop of Tal Kataf Al-Ghaddar, where they were confronted by a large contingent from Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army’s 1st Coastal Brigades; this attack resulted in the exchange of several mortar shells and gunfire rounds between both sides.
Finally, following a long battle this morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s Special Operations Division broke-through Jabhat Al-Nusra’s frontline defenses and imposed full control over this hilltop that overlooks the Islamist stronghold of Salma in Jabal Al-Akrad.
According to a military source inside the provincial capital of the Latakia Governorate, the Syrian Armed Forces killed over 20 enemy combatants from Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army’s 1st Coastal Division, while also destroying two mounted machine guns.
Tal Kataf Al-Ghaddar overlooks the imperative city of Salma in northeast Latakia; it is considered the most important hilltop that overlooks the aforementioned rebel stronghold.
