On Thursday, the State Department announced in its 2016 report on terrorist activity that Iran is the top state sponsor of terrorism. It also announced ISIS as “the greatest threat globally.”
The report said that Iran “remained the foremost state sponsor of terrorism in 2015, providing a range of support, including financial, training, and equipment, to groups around the world.”
The United States recognizes Hezbollah and a variety of Iraqi Shia paramilitary groups as terrorist organizations.
The department was “concerned about a wide range of Iranian activities to destabilize the region.”
The report also described the global terrorist threat in 2015 as “increasingly decentralized and diffuse,” noting that ISIS once again was “the greatest threat globally.”
The State Department’s findings are farcical when they do not consider their own sponsorship of terrorism groups such as the YPG, various Islamist groups in Syria and right-wing paramilitaries in Latin America.
