The dust began to settle on Southern Aleppo today as a Russian brokered 48-hour ceasefire came into play, for Aleppo, at midnight. Details of the aftermath of the recent clashes there have started to emerge:

Based on both government and rebel sources, it seem that approximately 70 insurgents have been killed during the latest round of clashes and the accompanying territorial exchanges in Aleppo’s southern countryside.

Government troops and their allies suffered an equally high death toll – in one attack, at least 12 Iraqi paramilitary fighters were killed by a TOW missile.

There is progress although there are too much losses which could be greatly minimized if the SAA or iraqi soldiers all had Level IV bulletproof vests and Level III helmets. These helmets are very new! Before 2015, there were only Level 3A helmets so rated for all pistol/revolver cartridges. Not a single helmet was able to withstand even the bullets from an old WW2 M1 Carbine. Level III can cope with point blank AK and AR bullets. A Level IV armour can deal with nearly all armour piercing high caliber rounds up to .30/06 AP or .338 Lapua AP. In… Read more »
