Six Syrian children with rare chronic diseases arrived at Hmeimim Air Base, Latakia province, on Tuesday night, ahead of their journey, courtesy of the Russian military, to St. Petersburg to receive treatment.
The children, who range in age from six to 14, were taken from Damascus, Latakia, Hama and Homs and will be treated at the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy.
Earlier this week, a large Russian humanitarian convoy arrived in Tartous to deliver supplies to several Syrian cities around the country, as international sanctions continue to punish the people of Syria.
With these sanctions in place, many Syrians are unable to get the proper medical treatment and medicine needed to fight their life-threatening diseases.
