BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:45 P.M.) – Dozens of Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers were targeted by a roadside bomb in the eastern countryside of the Daraa Governorate on Saturday.
According to a report from the governorate, a bus carrying 40 soldiers was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED) as it was travelling along the Kahlil Al-Sahwa Road in eastern Daraa.
The report said that at least eight soldiers were killed and 23 more were wounded.
The wounded have since been transferred to Busra Al-Sham National Hospital and Izraa National Hospital.
No group has claimed responsibility for this latest attack.
Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) sleeper cells have been active in this part of the Daraa Governorate recently, as they often target the Syrian Army troops in the Houran Valley region.
Since the Summer 2018 reconciliation agreement, the Daraa Governorate has witnessed a number of hit-and-run attacks that are often carried out by militant sleeper cells.
