BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:30 P.M.) – Minister of Parliament for the Lebanese Forces Party Sethrida Geagea announced on Friday that she will file a lawsuit against ex-intel chief Jamil el-Sayyed over a remark he made over fifteen years ago.

According to Naharnet online, Geagea issued the following statement: “I deeply regret the lack of morals of some people, such as Maj. Gen. Jamil al-Sayyed. I deeply regret Maj. Gen. al-Sayyed’s insolence when he was asked by a journalist about the fate of our comrade Ramzi Irani and he answered: ‘Ask Mrs. Sethrida and the Yassouh al-Malak group!'”

“Maj. Gen. al-Sayyed was a general director of General Security in Lebanon at the time, but in practice, he was the chief of the country’s entire security… whereas I, Sethrida Geagea, was under semi-house arrest. I was at my home in Yassouh al-Malak under strict surveillance and round-the-clock pursuit,” she continued.

Geagea is seeking to sue el-Sayyed on the grounds of “criminal defamation”, she added.

The person referenced in el-Sayyed’s remark was Ramzi Irani; he was a student representative of the Lebanese Forces Party before he was murdered in Beirut city in 2002.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
