BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:40 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) took a major gamble this past weekend in a bid to reach the outskirts of the strategic border-city of Albukamal in southeast Deir Ezzor.
Initially, the Islamic State’s attack was successful, as their terrorist forces managed to capture three towns from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops tasked with protecting the area.
However, the Islamic State’s success would be short-lived, as reinforcements from the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Brigade of the Republican Guard poured into the Albukamal countryside to drive back the terrorists.
According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Army was able to recover all of the points they lost to the Islamic State, including the three towns of Jalaa, Saiyal, and Hasarat.
In addition to recapturing all of their lost territory, the Syrian Army also killed a large number of Islamic State terrorists in the process.
The source added that many of the Islamic State corpses were left on the battlefield, as the terrorist group was forced to frantically abandon the area.
