The Saudi military spokesperson Brigadier General Ahmad Al-Assiri issued a statement in response to Ban Ki-moon’s investigation of the Mustaba Market massacre that killed 148 Yemeni civilians on Tuesday.
Assiri stated that the Saudi Royal Air Force did carry out the brutal airstrike; however, they were only acting on the information they received from their allies in the National Army (Hadi loyalists).
The general continued to avoid responsibility for the massacre, stating that the Mustaba Market in the Hajjah Governorate was a militant site.
He added that the “intelligence reports” the Saudi Air Force received had indicated that militants were heading to this market to purchase khat.
At no point in his statement did Assiri take responsibility for the massacre, despite admitting that the Saudi Air Force did in fact carry out the airstrike.
