BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:45 P.M.) – Saudi Arabia is seeking to build a 60 kilometer long canal that will erase their border with neighboring Qatar.

According to a Gulf News report, Saudi Arabia has set a deadline for accepting tenders to dig a 60 kilometer long canal that will turn Qatar into an island.

The last day to submit a tender for constructing the Salwa Canal is June 25th, the Gulf News continued.

At least five international companies with expertise in digging canals have submitted their tenders to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“The planned canal, expected to cost SR2.8 billion (Dh2.74 billion), will stretch from Salwa to Khor Al Adeed, and will be 200 metres wide and 15 to 20 metres deep, allowing ships up to 295 metres long and 33 metres wide to navigate it,” the Gulf News report added.

Saudi Arabia cut ties with Qatar last June and sought to isolate the small Gulf nation in the region, with several GCC nations backing Riyadh in their diplomatic war against Doha.

€645-646 millions?
Symbolic overcostly useless totally stupid idea. This money would be far better spent helping the quarter of Saudi population living under poverty threshold or at making the desert green and starting having an agriculture able to sustain populations, creating serious eco-system, etc.
Same about the many billions that have stupidly been spent at wrecking havoc into Syria.
And Qatar is no better.
Fücking shitlamist mindset!

“that will be 15-20 meters deep on the Saudi part of the Salwa Island to create a container base for nuclear waste from its yet-to-be-built reactors.”
