BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:00 A.M.) – Saudi Arabia has a “strong presence” in Syria’s northeastern region, the Secretary-General of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, Naser Al-Hariri, said on Sunday.
“Saudi Arabia enjoys a strong presence in northeastern Syria through its efforts to combat terrorism,” he continued.
Al-Hariri’s comments come just weeks after the Turkish media claimed that both the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia had troops deployed in northeastern Syria.
Neither Saudi Arabia nor the United Arab Emirates have confirmed the presence of their ground forces in Syria.
Saudi Arabia currently hosts the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary Opposition Forces; they are one of the main opposition groups currently negotiating with the Syrian government.
