BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:00 P.M.) – Earlier this week, the Sputnik News Agency conducted an interview with an Iraqi official tasked with reopening the crucial border crossing with neighboring Syria.
The official told the Sputnik News Agency that the border crossing would be reopened in the next two months, adding that there is not much left to do in regards to construction.
The Israel-based Image Satellite International released a satellite image of the site, showing the side road that was believed to have been paved in 2017 by the forces in the area.

This border crossing incredibly important to not only the Syrian and Iraqi governments, but also to the Iranian Armed Forces.
With a crossing now linking Iraq and Syria in the towns of Albukamal and Al-Qa’im, this will allow Iran to continue with their plan to open a new railway linking Tehran to the Mediterranean.
