BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:30 P.M.) – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its fighters intercepted on Friday, American bombers while flying in a border area between the two countries over the Sea of Okhotsk in the Arctic.

The National Center for the Defense Administration of the Ministry confirmed that Russian military observers detected two American B-52H bombers flying over international waters.

The center stated that Russian Su-30, Su-35 and MiG-31 jets accompanied the two American bombers, noting that the Russian border had not been breached.

The center pointed out that Russian aircraft overflights were carried out in strict accordance with international rules.

Over the past two weeks, U.S. Air Force fighters have accompanied Russian strategic bombers in the same area, leading to Friday’s tit-for-tat move.

The head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has previously stated that the Ministry of Defense is monitoring increased military activities by NATO near the Russian border, stressing that the Russian army continues to follow these developments in order to take “the necessary measures at the appropriate time “.
